“The Love Song of the Schizophrenic” Part I
Beautiful fragments of my mind cast stained glass colors
and the monarch butterfly could not be lovelier than my auroral dreams.
There are oil paints dripping down my ancient eyes,
and I shower in lilac watercolors and count my ribs through the pale gray cotton.
They leer at my bones swaying on stage with Manhattan billboard eyes.
With each step, my rose petals cascade colorlessly to the floor.
But forgive me for liking to paint myself purple yesterdays
and daring to dance to the songs they play inside my head.
“The Love Song of the Schizophrenic” was awarded a Silver Key from the Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards in 2012, and a Gold Key as part of my Senior Writing Portfolio in 2013.
